A raíz de una iniciativa presentada por el Parlamento Europeo en 2013 , la Comisión Europea ( Dirección General de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural ) contrató a un «Plan de acción europeo sobre recursos genéticos animales y vegetales» . El proyecto fue lanzado en julio de 2014 para un período de dos años.
Following an initiative tabled by the European Parliament in 2013, the European Commission (DG Agriculture and Rural Development) contracted a “Preparatory action on EU plant and animal genetic resources ”. The project was launched in July 2014 for a period of two years.
The study has been awarded to a consortium composed of Valdani Vicari & Associati (contract leader); Arcadia International (project coordination); the Centre for Genetic Resource, the Netherlands (CGN), Plant Research International Plant (PRI) and the socio-economics research institute (LEI); the Fungal Biodiversity Centre of the Royal Academy of Arts and Science (CBS-KNAW); and the Information and Coordination Centre for Biological Diversity of the German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE-IBV).
The aim of this preparatory action is to deliver inputs on how to improve communication, knowledge exchange andnetworking among all the actors potentially interested in activities related to the conservation of genetic resources in agriculture. Finally, the preparatory action aims to find ways towards a sustainable and economically viable use of these resources.
The geographic coverage of the study is the 28 EU Member States and covers the following domains:
- Plant genetic resources;
- Animal genetic resources;
- Forest genetic resources; and
- Microbial and invertebrates genetic resources.
